Debré, Olivier, Vase
Ceramic

Unique piece
Historically associated with the high art of statuary, then considered a luxury craft in the West, ceramics as an art medium was reborn under the hands of Moderns such as Pablo Picasso in Vallauris at the Madoura studio and Fernand Léger in Biot at the studio of his former pupil Roland Brice.
This porcelain vase, inspired by Chinese aesthetics, evokes the deep blue of a natural phenomenon such as a storm or typhoon.
About the author
Olivier Debré (1920-1999)
A major French painter on the art scene in the second half of the 20th century, Olivier Debré’s monumental, colorful, non-figurative work is an exact reflection of the way we experience reality. His vast canvases, composed of large swathes of fluid color, bring him closer to the “color-field painting” of American abstract expressionists such as Morris Louis and Clifford Still. His black-and-white etchings retain a very painterly feel.
