This lithograph appeared in issue 27-28 of the art and literary magazine Verve, founded by the art critic Tériade.
The dog barking in the night is a recurring subject for the artist, as two works, in 1926 and 1936, already deal with this theme.
While the silhouettes of the animals - dog, rooster, cat and bird - are clearly recognizable, the bright colors of Miron's palette plunge the viewer into a dreamlike, slightly disquieting universe.
