Miró, Joan, The Dog Barking at the Moon, 1952

This lithograph appeared in issue 27-28 of the art and literary magazine Verve, founded by the art critic Tériade.

The dog barking in the night is a recurring subject for the artist, as two works, in 1926 and 1936, have already dealt with this theme.

While the silhouettes of the animals – dog, rooster, cat and bird – are clearly recognizable, the vivid colors of the Mironian palette plunge the viewer into a dreamlike, slightly disquieting universe.
