In 1925-1926, the dancer Henriette Darricarrère, Matisse's principal model in the twenties, inspired a series of lithographs on this theme. Ten of these were brought together in an album published in 1927 by the Galerie d'Art Contemporain de Paris, with a preface by the writer and art critic Waldemar George (D.480 to 489).
