In the mythology of the Zodiac, Aquarius is the one who "pours water". Since ancient times, he has been depicted holding two jars of water flowing endlessly. There are also eastern depictions of the constellation, where the stars follow the course of the stream created by the overturned vessel. Thus, Jean Lurçat combines these two conceptions of myth since within each of these two torrents shines a star. The floral exuberance of Aquarius is rarer in ancient iconographic representations, but in Poésie (a tapestry made for the Chant du Monde in 1964), he will reproduce it with the same proliferation of vegetation.
This work is dazzling because of the vibration created by the bright colors and the wool thread, it is also original because of the theme that occupies it and the technique by which it is made.
