At the age of 37, Jean Leyris left London and settled in Provence, where he painted and drew. Fascinated by the region's natural beauty, he devoted himself to learning drawing and painting, finding nature an inexhaustible source of inspiration. His works evoke the South of France, with faithful representations of its flora and fauna. A typical example is his sculpture of the fig tree, emblematic of Provence. The artist creates a work in which the trunk, anchored in plaster, releases its leaves, giving the sculpture an almost real dimension.
