This figure in action, recurrent in the artist's work, echoes in its material and clay color a founding episode for Michel Haas. When he saw a field of earth turned upside down, he realized that the strength and depth of the elements were cultivated not on the surface but beneath the material, something he sought to realize in his subsequent work.
