“The trees were born out of a trip to Barcelona: they had their palms tied up in the air, like raised arms, and seemed to be begging for mercy. When I saw them, I had the impression of seeing tortured individuals. So there’s always a link between the subjects of my paintings and reality, which touches or upsets me”.
