Bernard Buffet met his wife Annabel Schwob, a singer and actress in Saint-Tropez, in 1958, and married her the same year in Ramatuelle. It was perhaps with this emotion in mind that he produced a series of works in soft, cheerful colors of Saint-Tropez. Here, the original lithograph highlights the charming side of a fishing town that has become a favorite haunt of tourists and the international jetset. Large white yachts provide a reflective white line at the center of the composition. But beyond the material aspect, the town retains its charm of yesteryear. The horizontal lines formed by the water, yachts and buildings are broken by the oblique lines of the colorful boats.
