This etching belongs to the Suite Vollard, a series of one hundred etchings produced by Picasso between mid-September 1930 and March 1937 in response to a commission from the merchant-publisher Ambroise Vollard. The face on the left resembles that of Marie-Thérèse Walter, Picasso’s muse at the time. The foreshortened nose and hair are reminiscent of the sculpture
