Picasso, Pablo, Three Nude Women by a Window, Suite Vollard 67, 1933

This etching belongs to the Suite Vollard, a series of one hundred etchings produced by Picasso between mid-September 1930 and March 1937 in response to a commission from the merchant-publisher Ambroise Vollard. The face on the left resembles that of Marie-Thérèse Walter, Picasso’s muse at the time. The foreshortened nose and hair are reminiscent of the sculpture Buste de femme, 1931. The continuity between these three women gives the impression that they are one and the same, depicted from three different points of view.
