Picasso, Pablo, Head of a Man in a Frame, 1971

Tête d’homme dans un cadre (Man’s head in a frame), probably a self-portrait, bears witness to the ardor of Picasso’s late style. It is reminiscent of Van Gogh’s painting – at the top of Picasso’s artistic pantheon – and is no doubt reinforced by the painting’s predominantly yellow color scheme. The work was one of 201 paintings included in the Picasso 1970-1972 exhibition at the Palais des Papes in Avignon in 1973.
