Figure voilée aux quatre bracelets (Veiled figure with four bracelets ) relates to the oriental theme of odalisques, which dominated Matissian iconography for a decade. The model is probably Élise Löwengard, known as Lisette, who posed for Matisse from 1928 to 1933. Lisette is also the inspiration for the lithograph La Persane, also from 1929 (D.507).
