With this title, Jean Lurçat evokes the similarities that can exist between the arts of tapestry and mosaic, highlighting the reasons for his interest in the lissier’s craft.

Both disciplines are intended for crowds, public places and gatherings. The artist was keen to create a popular work, unlike painting, which he found individualistic. The themes treated are also similar: prophetic, the tapestries and mosaics recount legends, myths and fables.

On this original work, the distinct elements form a harmonious result thanks to the use of the same vibrant colors. A floral fresco adorns the tapestry with delicate strokes and vivid hues. A kind of dragon in a circle of fire draws the viewer’s eye with its brilliance, while a large blue plant completes the right-hand side of the work.
