Picasso, Pablo, Aztec Vase with Four Faces, 1957

Picasso became passionately involved in ceramic creation in the autumn of 1947 in Vallauris at the Madoura pottery, the workshop taken over by Suzanne and Georges Ramié. He decorated pieces, sometimes modifying their shape in the still-soft clay. The shape of this vase dates from 1952. Picasso reworked it over the following years.
