Matisse, Henri, Large Mask, 1944

The lithograph Grand masque is a self-portrait of Matisse at the age of 74. It is one of a series of three drawn in a pared-down style. It was on this theme that Matisse executed his first print in 1900, a drypoint, Henri Matisse gravant (D.1).
