Matisse, Henri, Dancer 10, 1925-26

Dix Danseuses brings together lithographs showing dancers at rest in poses similar to those of contemporary odalisques, seated or reclining. Matisse returned to this theme in 1931-1932, when he produced La Danse for the Barnes Foundation, with lithographs of acrobatic dancers. Here, the figures are, in contrast, in motion and rhythm (D.526 -D.537).
