Matisse, Henri, Dancer 2, 1925-26

The theme of dance is a major inspiration in Henri Matisse’s work, from the round figures in Bonheur de vivre in 1905-1906 (The Barnes Foundation, Merion, Pennsylvania) to the dancers, acrobats and swimmers in the cut-out gouaches of the 1950s.
