Matisse, Henri, Album Jazz, Plate X, L’Enterrement de Pierrot 1947

L’Enterrement de Pierrot (Pierrot’s funeral) is linked to the world of the circus, the original theme of Jazz, to which other compositions such as Le Cirque, Le Clown, L’Avaleur de sabres, Le Lanceur de couteaux, etc. are linked. As the images were created, Matisse added other themes, such as folk tales and reminiscences of his trip to Oceania in 1930.
